CAIRO FRANCOPHONE FILM FESTIVAL

The Cairo Francophone Film Festival (CFFF) is an annual festival organized by “Media Hub Agency for PR, Media, Events and Communication” and sponsored by public/private organizations and entities in Egypt and around the world.

The aim of the Festival is to improve the taste in movies, to further artistic links between people, to allow meetings between professionals and to build bridges between workers in the field of cinema from different cultures and thus promote film industry in Egypt, in the Francophone world, the Arab world and other countries.

The Festival will be held in Cairo from 10th to 14th December, 2020.

The president of the Festival and the Festival Advisory Committee will define the broad guidelines of the new edition of the Festival and endorse the selection.

A selection committee composed of a number of critics and filmmakers will select the films of the Festival in Cairo under the supervision of the art director.

Sections of the Festival:

  1. Official Competitions
    1. International Competition for long feature films produced by member countries of the International Organization of La Francophonie, produced during 2019 – 2020.
    2. Competition for long feature films in French language produced during 2019 – 2020.

  2. Out of Competition
    • Cairo Francophone Film Festival Evenings: showing a selection of films to be projected outdoors at major Egyptian historical sites in Cairo.
    • Tribute to a francophone director/actor: showing some of his/her films and works.
    • Special Programs
    • A Master Class given by a known international francophone filmmaker.
    • A workshop for the development of scripts.
    • A section to help completing films with the support of Egyptian studios and laboratories.

Participation Conditions:

A. International Competition for feature films from member countries of the OIF

  • Films must be produced between January 2019 and the date of the inauguration of the Festival.
  • Films are screened in their original version with English or/and Arabic subtitles.
  • Each country has the right to participate with more than one film
  • The DVD must be received by the selection committee before 1st of November, 2020 together with the advertising material with no commercial value and for cultural purposes only.
  • The Festival will be entitled to keep DVD copies of the participating movies and screen them in private, non-commercial shows, and to deposit a screener with the Festival archives, which formally pledge to refrain from screening the film unless they have obtained the written agreement of its producer.

B. Competition of films in French

  • Films must be produced between January 2019 and the date of the inauguration the Festival.
  • Each country has the right to participate with more than one film.
  • The DVD must be received by the selection committee before 1st of November, 2020 together with the advertising material with no commercial value and for cultural purpose only.
  • The Festival will be entitled to keep DVD copies of the participating movies and screen them in private, non-commercial shows, and to deposit a screener with the Festival archives, which formally pledge to refrain from screening the film unless they have obtained the written agreement of its producer.
  • Each participating film at the Festival will be screened no more than 5 times.
